The destination holds complete files. This copies the files, not the source platform’s file system.

Sync brings down all the blocks of a file and recreates the full file on storage you own. You are not backing up their file system. You are keeping sovereign copies of your files.

What sync does

LucidLink and Suite Studios hold your files as blocks in a cloud file system. You mount the drive on your desktop and set up the sync in Performm. Even pinned files are just a set of blocks in that file system. Sync brings down all the blocks of a file and recreates the full object, so what lands on your storage is the complete file, ready to open anywhere.

  • Mount your LucidLink or Suite Studios workspace on your desktop
  • Set up a sync in Performm for folders in the workspace, or for the entire workspace
  • Choose your storage connections as the destination: a NAS, local drives, S3-compatible storage or other cloud storage you own
  • Sync recreates each file in full at the destination

A copy you own, not a backup of their file system

You are not backing up the file system. You are creating your own sovereign copies of your files on your own storage. Keep the backup, and if you ever decide to leave their platform, you can leave without issue.

Everything in one place is a single point of failure

Backup is a core principle of any storage strategy. However good a platform is, if everything lives in one place, that place is a single point of failure. A second copy on storage you control takes that risk away.

Ongoing or on a schedule

Set the sync to run on an ongoing basis, or choose the times it runs. Either way, only files that are new or have changed are synced, so each run brings across what is different and nothing else. Local storage needs the desktop app. Cloud storage works in the browser with nothing to install.

This is a conceptual example of incremental sync, not a progress display.

Still work from the copy

The copy is not a dead archive.
Apply a drive to any folder of the backup and share it with users, so they can stream media remotely from your own storage, whether it is cloud or local.

If a service goes down, or you leave

If those services went down, or you decide to leave, your files are not held hostage by a file system in the cloud.
They are already complete files on storage you control.

Which plan you need

Connecting and syncing are on the Free plan.
Sharing a drive with your team starts on Flow at $20 per user per month, with unlimited transfers.

What it means for you

For the creator

Keep working where you work.
Your files also exist as complete files on storage you own.

For the CFO

A copy you control, so no single platform's file system decides what happens to your files.

For the CEO

Your files stay yours.
Leaving a platform is a decision, not a recovery project.

Questions and answers

Aren't my pinned files already a copy?

No. Even pinned files are just a bunch of blocks in the cloud file system. Sync gives you full files, or objects, to work with.

How do I set it up?

Mount your LucidLink or Suite Studios workspace on your desktop, then set up a sync in Performm for folders in the workspace, or for the entire workspace, to your chosen storage connections.

Is this a backup of the LucidLink or Suite Studios file system?

No. Sync brings down all the blocks of a file and recreates the full file on your own storage. You keep complete copies of your files, not a copy of their file system.

Does it copy everything every time?

No. Only files that are new or have changed are synced.

Can it run all the time, or only when I choose?

Both. Set sync to run on an ongoing basis, or on a schedule.

Can my team still stream media from the copy?

Yes. Apply a drive to any folder of the copy and share it with users. They can stream media from your own storage, cloud or local. Shared drives are on Flow.

What if the service goes down or I want to leave?

Your files are already complete on storage you own, so you are not held hostage by a file system in the cloud.
